make install の最後で表示される

の書き換えを行った場合、/etc/mail/mailer.conf の書き換えをしていたら、
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/ で起動の為のスクリプトが不要になります。

一度、起動用のスクリプトの実行権限を外して reboot してみては如何でしょうか？
